Plan 9 from Outer Space

Plan 9 from Outer Space is a 1959 science fiction/horror film (SHOULD BE COMEDY) written, and directed by Edward D. Wood, Jr. This film features Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Tor Johnson and Malia "Vampira" Nurmi.

Ed Wood said this movie was his best work, if so that is very sad!

Do you like good special effects or vampires/aliens or even just good actors? Well then this movie just isn't for you.

Don't get me wrong I find this movie to be a gold mine as it taught me what a good director does by just looking at the opposite of what Ed Wood did. It's funny for all the wrong reasons. For example the electrosquiggley.

Also the flying saucers with the fishing line showing and many others.

My favorite part in this movie is Vampira(Malia Nurmi) and its because of 2 different things.The first being her waist and the second being the way she walks in the film. I guess using corsets long enough makes you look like a tooth pick.

See!

This is an all out hilarious mishap of a drama and I wish I could have seen it back when it first came out to see the crowds facial expressions and hear their comments after they watched it.

I would give this movie a 2.5/10 for a rating

Blackboard Jungle

Blackboard Jungle is a 1955 social drama directed by Richard Brooks and starring Glenn Ford as Richard Dadier and Anne Francis as Anne Dadier.

This movie is one of those movies you walk out of feeling like you got punched in the gut. It makes you wonder how people could be so cruel and horrible. But it also got its main point across in showing how horrid our educational system used to be and that it needed to be improved.

I have never seen a movie that impacted me this much as it made me realize that teachers deserve more respect then they are given and they also deserve much more for what they do.

A few of my favorite scenes are as follows (Note: one scene is very disturbing but I like it for a certain reason)

One of my favorite scenes is the scene starting when Margaret Hayes' character Ms Lois Hammond is fixing her stalking then you see Dadier walking down the hall you see her show and then he looks in the library and a student is trying to rape her. He breaks the door and for lack of a better term "beats the shit" out of the student while people are comforting Ms. Hammond. The reason I like this scene is that it shows Dadier in one of many moments in the film in a heroic view. Also shows that his character always does the right things, make a mental note of that.

My other favorite scenes are the last two in the movie. One being the fight scene in the class room (I won't give details) and then the promise scene between Glenn Ford's Richard Dadier and Sidney Portier's Gregory Miller talk about their pact and promise to continue through the end. with Miller walking off with Rock around the clock in the background.

Tarzan's New York Adventure

Tarzan's New York Adventure is a 1942 film, the sixth Tarzan film to feature actors Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan.

Tarzan movie awesome Cheeta best part. In case you can't understand Tarzan Speak I was saying that This Tarzan movie is awesome and Cheeta stole the show with his talent.

This film was a B movie and these were used in between main films of big studios during the time when movies were an all day event. Due to that fact, this movie has it's upsides and downsides for example it's a funny story but it has HORRIBLE special effects. Another example is good and bad at the same time, this movie used stock footage from other films but sometimes when this is used it wasn't a good match to the others being used in sequence.

I have multiple favorite parts of this movie are the following anything involving Cheeta and the Jungle scenes.

Houdini

Houdini is a 1953 biographical film about the life of the magician and escape artist Harry Houdini. It was made by Paramount Pictures, directed by George Marshall and starring Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

Do you believe in magic? Well it doesn't matter if you do or don't in this case. Yes this movie is all about Houdini, a magician but it isn't just about his magic it's about his family and his life.

The magic in the film is very interesting, the staging is great and the tricks are actually done by , Tony Curtis, the actor playing Houdini.

My favorite trick in the movie is the very first trick Houdini preforms for his future wife, Bess. I was advised not to try the trick at home by the teacher in charge of the class. Watch the movie and you will have the urge to go pull a rabbit out of a hat or some other cheesy magic act

What's Up Doc

What's Up, Doc? is a 1972 screwball comedy film directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, and Madeline Kahn.

Question: What do Lucille Ball, Barbra Streisand and Katherine Hepburn have in common?They have all played roles in a screwball comedy.

This movie is amazing not only is it funny but it is a movie that I could watch over and over again and not get bored, this is VERY rare. I am very happy to have seen this movie as before I didn't think that Streisand could act very well only seeing her play a role in a movie that I cannot stand, Meet the Fockers.

The greatest part of this movie is the time where chase seen starts at the party through to the very ending.

Captain January

Captain January is a 1936 American comedic drama directed by David Butler and starring Shirley Temple, Guy Kibbee, and Sara Haden. The screenplay is based on the storyThe Lighthouse at Cape Tempest by Laura E. Richards.

Let me start off with a question what do you get when you add an adorable child actress who has amazing singing and dancing talents, a kind hearted old man an arrogant truant officer. The answer is this fantastic movie.

Captain January is a great movie, with a story with its ups and downs with an ending that will put a smile on your face. Some of my favorite parts of this movie include ,"At The Codfish Ball", the song and dance between Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen and the last 3 or 4 scenes in the movie are also parts that caused this movie to become one of my favorite films I have seen so far!

First Post... Oh Boy!

Okay so here I go. So this is the second semester of my final year of middle school and for my elective I selected the elective my favorite teacher was teaching, Film Appreciation. This class has been going on for almost a month now and I have enjoyed every day of it! So I decided to share the many movies we watch with anyone who reads this. Let me start off by saying two things

First- If you have a problem with black and white movies or think they are inferior then don't read this or take the class.

Second- Read this with an open mind, I went into the class with one and can now say that I have seen some really great movies.

I'm going to start talking about the movies we have watched in the next post.
